Sustenance Artist Call Out

Britannia Community Centre Gallery (in the library) is seeking “Sustenance” artists. Sustenance may be considered an integrated concept that ties food in with other factors like culture, shelter and the environment. We are looking for 1-2 artists that embrace that idea of integrated Sustenance. Because you can have food but lack sustainable housing/clothing/shelter and you could have sustainable, secure housing but the environment is toxic or you can have a healthy eco system but your food is from somewhere grown in unsustainable manner and not necessarily healthy for you. Integrated Sustenance emphasizes the interrelationship of the other components essential to sustenance for all creatures including us humans.

The exhibition is for October 1-31, 2014. All artists may apply through the Britannia website under the gallery and put attention Sustenance Exhibition Proposal. It is best to visit the gallery space to see what it is like to understand the requirements.

Stone Soup 2014 Success

A big thanks to everyone for coming out and helping to celebrate our 19th Stone Soup Festival at Britannia Community Centre. The rain held off and more than 30 vendors from pakoras to tamales, artist tables, and community food groups were on hand to share their food and food information. A big thanks to the East Van Kitchen and their workshop – Living Well For Less and David Tracy for his author talk on Feeding A Hungry Planet With Engaged Ecology. Also a big thanks to the many volunteers who helped the festival run so smoothly.

Talk Healthy City for All

Hello friends

The City of Vancouver has launched their “Talk Healthy City for All” engagement process for the Healthy City Strategy, including food security. Please share your bold and innovative ideas for reaching the Strategy’s targets over the next decade – on our online forum, through social media, at in-person ideas labs, or by hosting your own event.

Visit http://www.vancouver.ca/healthycity4all for more details – watch the video, check out the goals and targets, sign up for a Soapbox account and start posting your best and boldest ideas (and vote, comment and add to others). City staff and the Healthy City for All Leadership Table will be listening.

Plus, you could win a chance to discuss your idea with local and global social innovators at the Social Innovation Exchange Ideas Festival on May 30, or learn additional skills to turn your idea into action with a scholarship to attend the THNK Creative Leadership workshop hosted by FUEL on May 30!

Come to their first Ideas Lab on Monday, May 5, 2014, 6:30 – 9 pm, Trout Lake CC, 3360 Victoria Drive or join their next Twitter Chat Thursday May 1st at noon. The @CityofVancouver Twitter account will pose questions on Healthy City for All topics, using the hashtag #healthycity4all.
