Stone Soup 2010 was once again a fantastic success. Despite weeks of rain and cool weather, prayers for a sunny day were magically answered. We could not have asked for a better day.

This much loved East Vancouver food festival celebrated its 15^th year. Well over 1000 people attended and perused over 30 food vendors, artist and community group tables.A theatrical presentation of the Stone Soup Story and puppet show called “Meansanto” entertained the children. Meanwhile the colorful and riotous carnival band looped their way around the site creating a spectacle of an event. Speakers shared their knowledge on the 3 Block Diet, Food Justice in the Downtown Eastside, and Backyard Urban Gardening. The Politics of Food Film Festival was a new addition, featuring a variety of films on urban gardening, globalization, ecology, aboriginal fisheries, and health. And once again this year, the Fiesta de las Madres brought a wonderful Latin American presence to the Festival.

The Stone Soup Festival is raising awareness about food security in our communities, but perhaps most important is our need to create communal experiences that bring people together in fun and creative ways to celebrate our most essential need – food. It is so important that we celebrate this new food system, but with the awareness that good, healthy food is a right and must be accessible for all.
