The Grandview Woodland Food Connection is thrilled to be partnering with the Sustainable Opportunities for Youth Leadership (SOYL) youth summer gardening internship. SOYL Summer Internship was piloted by the Intergenerational Landed Learning Project (ILLP) at UBC in 2010 to cultivate environmental leadership skills in adolescent youth, develop resilient communities, promote a sustainable food system, and advance local food production through gardening at schools. The program is now into its fourth year with this past summer working with 16 secondary students from Britannia, Van Tech, David Thompson and Churchill secondary schools and who built raised garden beds and planted, transplanted, harvested, sold, donated, cooked and ate produce from their school gardens.
Check out this great video produced by Dana Walker (Mortal Coil Media) and Berenice Freedome and starring two Britannia Students – Emerzen and Anthony.
